Music lessons in Charlotte, North Carolina

I’ve been teaching lessons locally in Charlotte for seven years, and running my one-man business Amplified Music School since 2024. I travel to students’ homes (for children ages 6-17) and also teach out of my home studio (for adults).

My primary instrument is guitar, but I would be happy to work with you at a beginner or intermediate level on bass guitar, voice or production (Ableton, GarageBand or Logic).

Here are some of my primary areas of focus when it comes to learning guitar:

Beginner Level
* Riffs and melodies
* Open chords and strumming
* Power chords
* Posture
* Parts of guitar, amp operation
* Major, pentatonic, chromatic scales

Intermediate Level
* Palm-muting
* Dynamics, song structure
* Barre chords
* Chord extensions
* Playing while singing
* Songwriting basics

Music Theory Concepts
* Musical alphabet, notes on the fretboard
* Intervals
* Chord construction
* Triad inversions up & down the neck
* Diatonic chord theory
* Non-diatonic chord theory

While we will learn these fundamentals along the way, ideally our lessons would be centered around song performance. Learning techniques and theory concepts is lovely and necessary, but those things are best absorbed within the context of playing songs. I host seasonal recitals and encourage all of my students to play. Performances sometimes include band opportunities for kids. Participation is not required but highly encouraged.

Lesson Rates

The fee for lessons fluctuates depending on a number of factors, including driving time (if traveling to your home) and time of day (lessons after 3pm are a higher rate than during school work/hours).

Lessons start at $45 for each 45-minute session, and are typically held on a recurring weekly basis. Lessons are billed monthly in advance.

Availability

As of Summer 2025, I have various time slots available on a recurring basis. When the school year begins, I’m anticipating that my late afternoons & evenings will book quickly. So now is a great time to get started with lessons! Contact me.
